My name is Angelina and I am the founder of the Curly Playground – a science geek’s guide to curly hair care and natural beauty. An Atlanta native and busy mom of three, with two girls blossoming before my eyes, I have spent many years caring for and styling natural hair. I have been through every phase imaginable along my own natural hair journey. Despite remaining natural until my freshman year in college, I had never fully embraced my kinky, coily texture. When I made the decision to “big chop” and return to my natural roots, I sought to fully embrace the curls I had always tried to hide. That was over 10 years ago…

I am the textbook definition of a science geek as evidenced by my Masters in Chemistry and Doctor of Pharmacy degree. In more recent years, I began to explore the natural hair care world on a different level – developing an interest in product formulation and clean beauty. Understanding the science behind hair care and learning more about risks associated with commonly used ingredients in many hair and beauty products completely transformed my natural hair journey. Today, I work to educate others on the science of product formulation (cosmetic chemistry) and clean beauty options. My goal is to reduce the frustrations experienced when caring for and styling your own natural hair.

I am passionate about encouraging others to fully embrace the unique beauty of their natural hair as this was a major turning point that simplified my own personal journey. With two girls, I understand the importance of empowering women to love themselves and their hair texture in spite of a world where society and social media often celebrate images in which they do not see their resemblance. Kinky, curly, and coily hair offers versatility that adds a spark to life. Whether you decide to wear it straight, in a protective style, in a simple wash n go, or pinned up in a bun, it is all beautiful. It is an expression of your individuality, uniqueness, and creativity. It is simply you and that’s what the Curly Playground is here to celebrate. Now, let’s play!
